What Is the Lake Region Economic Bloc?

The Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) is an economic development organization serving the 14 counties of Western Kenya, Nyanza, and parts of the Rift Valley. We work to accelerate regional development through agriculture, blue economy initiatives, tourism, trade, innovation, and large-scale investment partnerships.

The 14 LREB Counties

Below is the official and complete list of the 14 member counties of the Lake Region Economic Bloc — not including Nairobi, Eldoret, or Nakuru (these areas are partners but not members of the bloc).

1. Kakamega County

Headquarters: Kakamega

Governor: Fernandes Barasa

Main Economic Activities: Sugarcane, dairy, maize, gold mining

Investment Opportunities: Agribusiness, eco-tourism, real estate, dairy value addition

2. Bungoma County

Headquarters: Bungoma

Governor: Kenneth Lusaka

Main Economic Activities: Sugarcane, dairy, horticulture

Headquarters: Busia Town

6. Homa Bay County

Main Activities: Fishing, horticulture, cattle farming

7. Migori County

Main Activities: Sugarcane, gold mining, fishing

Investment: Mining, sugar value addition, agribusiness

8. Kisii County

Main Activities: Tea, bananas, soapstone carving

Main Activities: Tea, dairy, bananas
